Signal Sounds vs Buchla | 24th April 2024

There’s something about a synth in a briefcase that we love here at Signal Sounds. To the outside world you look like you're strictly business, but secretly you know your real work is bleepy bloops.

Suitcase synths don't get much more famous than the Buchla Music Easel. It's right up there as one of the most recognisable synths of all time. Don Buchla and his designs are incredible, weird and wonderfully unique, even after half a century and in a crowded synth world.

There’s a lot of history to cover, but thankfully we know an expert on the subject - Tom Lewis! Tom will be up from London to talk about the Buchla design philosophy, the timeline of the Music Easel and the parallels with the era-defining art and music movement in and around the Berkeley area in California in the 1960s and 70s.

He'll also be presenting some demo patches on the new Music Easel Modern Edition to showcase the Buchla’s sound and 'West Coast' patching philosophy.

The talk will kick off at about 7:30pm and there will be the usual beer/soft drinks and pizza provided from around 6:45pm if you're coming straight from work and need some sustenance.

Afterwards we’ll head to Attack Release at Bloc to keep the good synth vibes going. Tickets to our event are free but limited - grab yours here.
