We’re excited to partner with record label Gravity Pleasure and artist Sonia Killman to offer a Synth Club + Beginners Synthesis Workshop for FLINTA* people!

*Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, Agender

The main goal of this edition is to provide a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment to demographics that are under-represented in the synth community, and give them the opportunity and equipment to learn and collaborate together.

This edition of Synth Club will feature an Introduction to Synthesis workshop led by Sonia Killman, which will provide background and hands-on experience with synthesisers.

After the workshop and a brief break, we’ll team folk together and you’ll then take part in a Synth Club! Places are limited - save your spot via Eventbrite.

Synth Club for FLINTA poster with summary of event details

What is Synth Club?

Synth Club is an interactive social event that sees you collaborate with fellow synth aficionados to make music to a brief against the clock.

It’s inspired by activity community groups like running clubs and time-limited creative contests like the 48 Hour Film Project.

How does it work?

Once everyone has arrived, you’ll be organised into teams of four.

Each team will pick four prompts at random. These prompts could be a genre, a BPM, a style of playing, or just about anything that you could consider as a creative jumping-off point.

You and your newly formed team will then have 60 minutes to make a piece of music lasting between 30 seconds and three minutes that uses at least one of the prompts from your card.

At the end of the 60 minutes, we’ll have a ‘show and tell’ of all the music created.

What do I need to come along?

We ask all participants if possible to bring their own headphones (ideally with a ¼” connection, though adapters can be provided). We have some headphones here but let us know if you need some as we won’t have enough for all 16 people.

If you have a synth, or anything for making music like a laptop with software (Ableton/Logic etc), a fun guitar pedal, a drum machine etc; you are of course welcome and encouraged to bring that along. Otherwise you’ll use the synth you were exploring in the workshop segment!

If you are bringing your own synth, please also bring its power supply and the necessary cable to connect to a mixer (we use the Zoom L6 which has ¼”  inputs).

We anticipate the workshop and event to start at 1pm and finish at around 4pm.

If you have lots of synth experience and feel you don’t need to attend the workshop component you are welcome to just get a ticket and come for the Synth Club section (times will be confirmed)

Finally, make sure you join our Discord server to stay in the loop about all things Synth Club!
